Esther HESS
Esther Hess (1919, Pforzheim, Germany – 2016, Paris, France) was a Swiss artist.
After studying art in Zurich and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Berlin, she settled in Paris in 1954, where she developed her multifaceted practice.
Esther Hess pushed to the extreme the art of transforming, transfiguring, and sublimating even the smallest objects from daily life, nature, and the cosmos. Without unnecessary embellishments and with extreme rigor, her work revealed a perfect mastery of her dreams and emotions. She also maintained a light, dry humor and an elegance that characterized her.
The body of work by Esther Hess, who defined herself as a visual artist, is vast. She explored all media: sculpture and installations, some monumental, two- and three-dimensional assemblages, paintings, drawings, engravings, photographs, poems and texts, artist books, interior and furniture design.
